Geoff Louw's portfolio. A collection of work done as a freelancer, and while working for various graphic design studios and advertising agencies, including top companies like Ogilvy, Saatchi & Saatchi and Publicis. On view are examples of logo, brochure and annual report design, as well as cartoons and illustration. Geoff works for companies in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, as well as the rest of the world.

My my job was to come up with ideas for ads, all day every day. As a result, my design work tends to be a bit more ideas-y than most. I'm quite happy about this now, although at the time I didn't always enjoy working for ad agencies, even on the tropical island of Mauritius, where I spent 3 years....(more)"

ADVERTISING AGENCY WORK
Press and magazine ads done in various ad agencies, including Ogilvy, Publicis and Saatchi & Saatchi. Geoff writes: "...a small selection of above the line newspaper and magazine ads. I did most of these while working in advertising agencies, before I became a freelancer...I heard a quote somewhere to the effect that print advertising is the finest of the arts. I agree with that to an extent. Well, there's definitely an art to it anyway. It's not easy to combine visuals and words to deliver a specific message. At the end of the day though, ads are less about art and more about promoting products. I found that advertising agencies which focus entirely on winning awards often do so at the expense of...(more)"

CARTOONISTS AND ILLUSTRATORS PORTFOLIO
Geoff enjoys being a cartoonist most, but has done a wide variety of commercial art: "...I started my career drawing story boards for TV ads at J Walter Thompson, an ad agency in Johannesburg. When I moved on to Art Direction, I carried on doing all my own stuff...On display is a small selection. These days I mostly do it digitally, but I can also handle Magic Marker, pen & ink, pencil, acrylic, watercolour and airbrush....(more)"

A comprehensive graphic design campaign for an advertising agency in Durban: "...
